Thomas MACKENZIE & Aletta Christensen

Thomas Robertson MACKENZIE
[27/5/1883-22/1/1940]
married
Aletta Sophia CHRISTENSEN
[29/10/1874-c28/9/1910]

Thomas Robertson Mackenzie was born at Torbreck, Rogart, son of Colin Mackenzie and Margaret Robertson. He is a great great grandson of Colin Mackenzie and Barbara Gordon.

A death notice in the 'Northern Times' dated 22nd February 1940 told me that Thomas had died in Alberta, Canada. I then found that Thomas had died on 22nd January 1940 at the Lethbridge Hospital, Alberta, Canada - he was buried at Milk River, Alberta on 26th January] (funeral home records which also tells us that Thomas spent 42 years in Canada). Thomas married Mrs Aletta Sophia Christensen of Lethbridge, Alberta – “Thomas Robertson Mackenzie married Mrs Aletta Christensen of Lethbridge at the Wesley church parsonage last evening” (Lethbridge Daily Herald” 28/9/1910) – “Mackenzie, the death occurred at Cardston on Wednesday of Mrs Aletta Sophie Mackenzie following a year’s illness. She was born at Oslo, Norway on October 29th 1874 and had resided in South Alberta for the past 29 years. On son and one daughter survive, Colin Mackenzie and Mrs M Whitting. Funeral services will be conducted from the Milk River United church on Saturday at 2pm and internment will follow in Milk River Cemetery “ (Lethbridge Daily Herald, Thursday 21/8/1941) – Thomas and Aletta are buried side by side in Milk River – see gravestones above – their son Colin W Mackenzie was a pallbearer at his father’s funeral – he lived at Turner Valley, Alberta, at least for a time – there are no Mackenzie’s there nowadays.
